Centre for nonviolent action
We were taught about the Second World War in school, we watched films, read books. We expect there to be a consensus, at least about the basics. The Holocaust, the casualties of the Second World War, the reign of fascism and the horrors of destruction left in its wake are (mostly) not disputed. However, if we can agree on that, why can’t we commemorate this properly, by commemorating victims and the places where lives were taken?
It is the greatest sorrow, because it is mine, said Nail Kajević on the 27th anniversary of the murder of his brother Nijazim Kajević, one of the twenty passengers taken from the Lovćen 671 train in Štrpci on 27 February 1993.
The peace initiative Marking Unmarked Sites of Suffering (ONMS) and the Centre for Nonviolent Action Sarajevo-Belgrade presented their activities and website with documentation on actions to mark unmarked sites of suffering related to the 1992-1995 war in BiH.
An informal group of activists, with the support of CNA, so far has marked more than 80 unmarked sites of suffering. This text presents reflections on actions to mark unmarked sites of suffering in Bosnia and Herzegovina related to the war period from 1991 to 1995.
We conducted this action from 12 to 14 November 2019 in and around Sanski Most, Prijedor, Bosanski Novi/Novi Grad and Krupa na Uni
Our ninth action of marking unmarked sites of suffering is complete. This time, we visited sites in Mostar, Konjic, Sarajevo and Istočno Sarajevo.
Since 2008, the Centre for Nonviolent Action, with offices in Sarajevo and Belgrade, has been organising visits by groups of war veterans from Croatia, Serbia and BiH to sites of atrocities against civilians and soldiers committed in the recent war and to official commemorations honouring victims, organised by local and state authorities and victims associations.
We have completed our eighth action of marking unmarked sites of atrocities. With nine new marked locations, that makes 67 sites we have marked

In the action conducted from 26 to 29 March 2018, we marked unmarked sites of suffering in Vareš, Kakanj, Jajce, Prijedor and at Korićanske stijene.
In our seventh action of marking unmarked sites of suffering, we marked sites of suffering in Vareš, Jajce, Prijedor and at Korićanske stijene.
